PROJECTS

Generally I am a short term planner, trying to work in 3 month (maximum) stretches, but will work longer if it is part time and / or partly from home. I work on civil engineering or civil based rail projects, I'm not really a construction (building) planner except for the main foundations and the core, not the finishings. Call me for tenders, time claims, when you have a staff shortfall (either recruiting of when someone is on leave). I have some contractual law knowledge, and am happy to use different contract conditions. I can quote a rate plus expenses or a flat all-in rate, please email me details on my contact page or via ross-planning@uku.co.uk

Latest Projects

When I'm working on rail projects, the ultimate client will be Network Rail, and I'm happy to use Primavera P6 (I used to use P3 in the older projects) and Microsoft Project. I understand most of the requirements for possessions including isolation, having been PTS trained (now lapsed as I have no sponsor), and can produce programmes for client or contractor use. With my background as an Appointed Person Cranes (now lapsed) and temporary works (both design in South Africa and tempoaray works inspections for Nuttall John Martin, AMEC and Morrison) I understand both access and buildability limitations.

February 2013 – September 2013 for Birmingham Tunnels Refurbishment

Initial meeting with Amey / VolkerLaser at Colmore Plaza (Central Birmingham, UK) to meet with the principal Amey staff and various subcontractors to establish the ground rules to start the planning and programming phase. 1 day later in the same week to start programming process for the tunnels refurbishment. Once a basic programme exists, approx. 1 day per week developing the programme (majority of which were carried out from my home address). Attended further planning meetings in Birmingham over and above the 1 day a week, by agreement. Site updating remotely twice weekly for Queensway & St Chad's Tunnels projects from 21st June to 15th September. The tunnels opened on time, with most works done in the closure, some final works moved to the last 2 weeks’ night closures.

October 2013 – January 2014 (4 months) for CP5 tender

Contract (mostly working from home) to provide programmes in P6 for 12 No Structures Sample Projects and 5 No Property Sample Projects. 3 No Structure and 3 No Property project programmes were submitted as part of the tender with the balance initially for pricing, but likely to be tabled if discussions are started after the tender submission. The tender was submitted late December 2013, and there have been some queries early in 2014.

This is the 3rd contract working for VFL - see the CV tab please

I've done a lot of work for Bam Nuttall and it's subsidiaries, originally John Martin, later Nuttall John Martin after Edmund Nuttall decided to emphasise its name. An employee for 5 1/2 years on the Construction Management Framework, then 2 years as a contract Planning Engineer. The full range is covered under my CV page, but includes highways, temporary works, rail, tenders, bid writing, etc. over my normal role.
